Mom Bod Positivity

Pregnancy was the first time i had people regularly commenting on my body. Our culture is obsessed with the female form. Women’s bodies are expected to conform to specific standards and if we don’t look a certain way, we are told to cover up. We are targeted by countless marketing campaigns telling us to dress this way, work out that way and use those creams to get rid of our stretch marks. Until I was actually pregnant, I didn’t realize how much i would struggle with gaining the body “baby” weight. When i was pregnant i gained close to 45 pounds which is a lot more than the recommended amount. I think it all really hits us after we have the baby because then we cant say “Oh, well I’m growing a tiny human.” The best advice I can give to someone who is struggling with loving their post baby body is to embrace it! thats right, EMBRACE IT. Girl you had a baby, a tiny human was inside you for around 9 months. You have to be positive and embrace the body that God has given to you. God chose you to be a mother just like he chose you to have this body that you’re unhappy with. Also, don’t comment on any mothers bodies telling them that they’ve “bounced back” it infers that there is a “back” and that the goal is to be like it again. Basically just play it safe and don’t comment on any mothers post baby body.

Mom Guilt

Mom guilt is such a real thing. Mom guilt is when you feel like you haven’t done enough for your little ones Or you feel guilty for taking time to yourself throughout the day. There is absolutely no reason for feeling guilty for taking Time to yourself. If you don’t take time to yourself every once in a while then you will go insane. Also as long as your children are fed, have a warm bed to sleep in, and are happy then you’ve done enough for them. They will love you no matter what. So please please quit being so hard on yourself momma!

What Being A Single Mom Means To Me

Im sure everyone knows being a single mom is hard. Being a single mom does not mean being both parents in every situation. The father can still be involved with the child and you be a single mom. Being a single mom to me doesn’t mean waking up to a happy baby at 7am after a hard night with no sleep. Being a single mom means enjoying watching your child learn how to walk even though your house may never look the same now. It means being so upset with yourself because the baby fell asleep crying and you don’t know what else to do. It means enjoying every single moment you have with your child wether it be good or bad. Single moms deserve SO much more credit than they’re given. So here’s to the single moms! You guys are killing it!!

Post Partum Depression

Post partum depression is a topic that not many people understand unless they’ve had it. Post partum to me is where you feel like you’re drowning and can’t get ahead.. You’re basically failing your child in your mind. You could be the best mom ever but in your head you’re the biggest failure of a mom ever. People who don’t understand post partum think it’s funny to make fun of or that it’s a made up illness. It’s not made up at all, it’s a very serious thing that needs to be treated immediately. PPD (post partum depression) can basically eat you alive until you can’t separate fact from fiction. It’s extremely important to tell someone you trust if you think you have PPD. PPD makes you think that you can’t do anything right. My personal struggles with PPD have caused me to not be the best mom I can be to my son. To some people it can be hiding in the bathroom crying while your child cry’s In another room. To some people it could be taking a second to calm down and breathe while your child stares at you. It’s different things for different people but that doesn’t mean it is any less real of a problem.

Top 5 Must Haves – Mom Edition

Ok guys, today were talking about what moms need! The number one thing is a good diaper bag! I personally use the Kelty Super Cooler Backpack Diaper Bag with Rugged trim in black and white. Which retails for $50 from Babies R Us. It has a insulated pouch upfront and has plenty of room for everything you need. The second thing is a baby log to track temperature, medicine, along with how much and when they ate last. I personally use “Glow Baby Tracker” from the App Store. For the third thing we’re going to be talking about lavender! Lavender candles or wax melts are GREAT! They will help you and the baby sleep, just make sure to always place it out of the babies reach. I personally LOVE Country Scents Candles “Calming Lavender” scent. The next two items are pillows! Anorexia and Me

For those of you who don’t know what Anorexia Nervosa is, it is when someone actively tries to lose more weight or maintains a current weight under what is considered healthy for their age and height. I’m Haley and I struggled with Anorexia for roughly five years. Anorexia is dangerous because you can have it and have absolutely no idea that you suffer from it. Many people will refer to anorexia as “Ana” online. Anorexia can make you loose your period in women, it can slow down your growth physically, and most importantly it can make you lose yourself. Many times when someone has an eating disorder they will not recognize who they see in the mirror, all they will see is the weight or what they are most self-conscious about. Personally when I struggled I focused on my weight and toning my body the most. Anorexia still affects my mental health to this day and I have been in recovery for 2 full years now. When you suffer from anorexia you can have sever anxiety, depression, and even bipolar disorder. Generally when someone suffers from an eating disorder they choose baggy over tight fitting clothes, they will be more inclined to hide food rather than eat, and they will choose to avoid eating in front of people at all costs. The main reason I am so open about my struggles with anorexia nervosa is because I want to end the stigma associated with it. Anorexia isn’t taboo, it is a real struggle that every day people face and have lost their life too. Life after an eating disorder is very possible even though it may not seem it at the time. When talking to someone who you think has an eating disorder don’t push them, let them talk to you about what bothers them. Don’t call them out for counting calories or not wanting dressing on their salad. The best way to recovery is through a friend who listens and is willing to walk you through the process step by step. I would love to hear from any of you who need someone to talk too about eating disorders or want to hear my personal recovery story.

Birth Plans – Shit Happens

Ok guys, birth plans. Everyone has one and no, they don’t always go according to plan. For example I thought I would push for an hour and then be able to do skin to skin first thing.. What happened was I pushed for two hours, ended up having to have forceps used and then they checked him before we even got to do skin to skin. You have to be flexible with your birth plan. The doctors will do what is best for you and the baby, you have to remember that! If you aren’t flexible, it will add stress to you and the baby when the doctors change the plan last minute and I know we’ve ALL heard “Stress is bad for the baby” before!

End The Stigma (Of Mental Health)

Mental health is something i am extremely passionate about. Over the past 8-10 years I’ve suffered from depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and an eating disorder. I’ve been seen by multiple doctors on the subject of my mental health. What I’ve learned is, medicine isn’t the enemy, whatever you suffer from is. I also learned its ok to take time for yourself every now and then. You can’t expect to get better if you don’t take time to do something you love and enjoy doing. Mental health issues aren’t glamorous like they show on TV.. Mental Health issues is when you’re sitting in a make shift psych ward that doubles as a drunk tank waiting to be sent to a mental hospital. Mental health issues is crying until you run out of tears. Mental health issues NEED to be talked about. We personally need to end the stigma that is associated with mental health.
